I haven’t posted for a while, as I have been busy working on an exciting new holiday let project. The Fold is a luxury shepherds hut. In fact it’s two shepherds huts, joined in the middle to form one larger, lovelier offering for just one couple. So it’s twice as big and, dare I say it, more than twice as nice.
Shepherds huts were most popular in the Victorian era. Used most during lambing season, they were somewhere for the shepherd and his dog to rest and sleep. They’d usually have a bed, with space underneath for sickly or orphaned lambs.
Our hut is based on plans from one of those original huts. However, it’s warmer, is decidedly more stylish and has more than enough room to swing a lamb! It sits in its own field, backing on to an orchard. It is also full of luxury touches, designed to take glamping to a whole new level.
Highlight for most of our new guests has been the gorgeous copper bath. The copper retains heat so that you can loll around for ages with a good book and a glass of wine. Not a bath person? There’s also a shower room (with loo and basin).
The king size bed is dressed with French pure linen bedding. There’s a smart TV at the end for when you want to snuggle up and watch a film. You can also watch it from the bijou but super comfy leather sofa.
What else? A woodturner to keep things toasty, plus a heavy duty radiator and heated towel rails to ensure it never gets cold in there, whatever the weather throws at you. Our first guests came during Storm Dennis and confirmed that everything was cosy – phew!).
The kitchen has not just a little fridge and hob, but also a full sized oven. Plus there’s a little tea and coffee station. The dining table is in front of the double doors so guests have views over the countryside. I’m thinking that it will be delightful in the summer, too, with the doors thrown open.
Outside, there’s a table and chairs and a fire pit for toasting marshmallows – and a grill for summer BBQs.
It is, in my humble opinion, the perfect little love nest. Or indeed, a retreat for anyone who wants to escape, read, write. Or get well… Watch this space, as we are aiming to start offering private health packages for one or two people who want to come and get fit or seriously relaxed. We’ll be offering a combination of onsite neuromuscular massage, Pilates, meditation, Nordic Walking and healthy eating, as well as tailor-made programmes for anyone who needs rehab (and I’m talking dodgy backs, knees, shoulders here, not drugs and alcohol!!). We can, in fact, offer all these things now, so do get in touch if you want us to sort something out for you.
So there, that’s it. Apart from to add that the Weald of Kent is a beautiful area of the country with so much to see and do – vineyards, hop fields, orchards, world famous gardens and castles, some gorgeous old towns and villages … If you want to feel the love, or know someone who might want to visit this luxury shepherds hut, you can book via Airbnb here. And of course, feel free to share, share, share!
